About

Founded in July 1936 and set inside the walls of the Belgrade Fortress, the city zoo keeps more than 1,000 animals from around 200 species. It is known as Vrt dobre nade, the Garden of Good Hope, and much of it is built into the old ramparts on the slope above the Danube. The site is compact and steep, and it stays open through the year with the entrance on Mali Kalemegdan.
