1. Who we are

Belgrade Life ("we", "us", "our") operates belgradelife.com, a bilingual city guide, business directory and local services marketplace for Belgrade, Serbia. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

2. What data we collect

Account data

When you sign up, we collect your email address and password (email/password sign-up), or, if you sign in with Google, your name, email address and profile picture URL as provided by Google. We store a display name and avatar in your profile, which you can edit at any time from your account page.

Favorites

If you save (favorite) a venue, we store a record linking your account to that venue so you can find it again later.

Forms you submit

  • Claiming a venue or proposing a new business: your name, email, phone number, and message, plus (for new businesses) the business details you provide.
  • Applying to list a service on Local Services: your name, email, phone number, and the service details you provide (business name, category, description, languages spoken, service area, etc.).
  • Contacting us through our Contact page: your name, email, phone number (optional) and message. These messages are stored so our team can respond and follow up.
  • Messaging a business directly from a venue page: your name, email and message are sent by email directly to that business — we do not store a copy of this message ourselves.

Business & payment data

If you register a business, we store the business name, email, phone number and website you provide. If you purchase a paid plan or add-on, our payment provider Polar.sh processes your payment — we never see or store your card details. We only store the amount, date, status and which plan/add-on was purchased.

Technical & usage data

Like most websites, our hosting and security providers automatically log standard technical information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and reliability purposes. See our Cookie Policy for details on cookies and analytics.

3. Why we use your data

  • To create and manage your account and show you your favorites and applications.
  • To process venue claims, business applications and service listings, and to contact you about their status.
  • To respond to messages you send us or to businesses on the site.
  • To process payments for paid plans and add-ons.
  • To keep the site secure (spam/bot protection) and improve it (aggregated, consent-based analytics).
  • To send you service-related emails (welcome email, claim/application status updates, contact form confirmations).

4. Who we share data with

We use the following third-party services to run Belgrade Life. Each only receives the data it needs to perform its function:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider; stores your account and all data described above.
  • Vercel — our hosting provider; serves the website and processes standard web traffic logs.
  • Google — used for: (a) Google Sign-In, if you choose to log in with Google; (b) live ratings and embedded maps on venue pages, which load directly from Google; (c) Google Analytics, only if you consent to analytics cookies (see Cookie Policy).
  • Cloudflare (Turnstile) — a privacy-friendly captcha we use to protect our forms from spam and abuse; your IP address is sent to Cloudflare when you submit a protected form.
  • Polar.sh — our payment processor for business plans and add-ons; if you make a purchase, your email address and payment details are shared with Polar.sh, who act as merchant of record.
  • Our email sending service, used only to deliver the transactional emails described above.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

5. International data transfers

Some of the providers listed above (including Google, Cloudflare and Polar.sh) are based outside Serbia and the European Economic Area. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for international transfers (such as standard contractual clauses).

6. How long we keep your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Claim, application and contact form submissions are kept as long as reasonably needed to process them and for our records. You can ask us to delete your data at any time — see Section 8.

7. Cookies

We use cookies for essential site functionality and, only with your consent, for analytics. See our Cookie Policy for full details and how to change your choice at any time.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. See our Data Protection Rights page for full details, or simply email us at info@belgradelife.com and we'll help.

9. Children

Belgrade Life is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post any changes on this page with an updated "last updated" date.
