Great War Island (Veliko ratno ostrvo) is an uninhabited river island of about 2.1 km² at the confluence of the Sava and Danube, protected since 2005 as a landscape of outstanding features and an important bird habitat. Its northern tip holds Lido, a sandy Danube beach reached in summer via a temporary pontoon bridge from the Zemun quay. It is a rare pocket of wetland wilderness within the city.
