Gyms and fitness in Belgrade for newcomers

Belgrade has a strong fitness culture and prices that will pleasantly surprise anyone arriving from Western Europe or North America. Whether you want a no-frills iron gym, boutique classes, a pool, or just to run by the river, the city has it. Here is how newcomers can find the right setup without overpaying or signing a contract they will regret.

Start with FitPass if you like variety

The single most useful thing for a newcomer is FitPass, a membership that gives you access to hundreds of gyms, studios, pools and sport centres across Serbia through one app. Prices start from around 4,700 RSD per month for the entry tier, with higher tiers allowing more visits and broader access. It is ideal if you have not settled on one neighbourhood yet, or if you like mixing lifting, swimming, yoga and group classes. You check in through the app at each venue.

Joining a single gym

If you would rather have one home gym, a standard monthly membership runs roughly 3,000 to 5,000 RSD (about 25 to 45 EUR), often cheaper if you pay for several months or a year up front. Larger chains such as Mega Gym have several branches, and there are countless independent gyms in every district. A few practical points that catch newcomers out:

  • Some gyms charge a small one-off fee for an access card or wristband, typically a few hundred dinars.
  • Many expect you to bring clean indoor trainers and change into them.
  • Evenings after work are the busy peak; late morning and early afternoon are calmer.
  • Ask whether your membership includes group classes or whether they cost extra.

Pools, classes and boutique studios

Belgrade has good public and hotel pools, including well-known sports centres in Dorćol and around the city, many of which are FitPass partners. For group training, CrossFit boxes, spinning, pilates and yoga studios are easy to find, and quite a few instructors run classes in English or will happily switch. Boutique studios cost more than a basic gym but less than their Western equivalents.

Training outdoors

You do not need a gym at all to stay fit here. Ada Ciganlija, the river island and lake nicknamed Belgrade sea, is the city outdoor fitness hub: a long running and cycling loop, outdoor calisthenics and workout parks, swimming, kayaking, tennis and more. Košutnjak forest offers shaded trails and a set of outdoor stairs that locals use for interval training, and Kalemegdan is pleasant for a run with a view over the rivers. In summer, early morning or evening is the sensible time to train outside.

Personal trainers and budgeting

Personal training is affordable by international standards, commonly around 1,500 to 3,000 RSD per session, less if you buy a package. Many trainers advertise on Instagram and through their gyms, and a fair number speak English. If you are mapping out your monthly spending, our cost of living in Belgrade guide puts fitness costs in context alongside rent, transport and groceries.

The bottom line for a newcomer: start with a FitPass membership for your first month or two while you learn the city, then commit to a single gym or studio near home or work once you know your routine. Either way, staying active in Belgrade costs a fraction of what you are probably used to.

Your local explorer

Belgrade's bohemian quarter is a cobblestone paradise of traditional restaurants, street art, and the lingering spirit of 19th-century poets.
